“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength:” Isaiah‬ ‭26:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬. Many times when we read verse 3, we assume that if we can only keep our thoughts centered on God, then we will have peace. But notice the word ‘BECAUSE’. This reminds us, that we will only focus our attention on God, if we trust Him. We will only look to Him for our peace, as we trust Him. In essence, peace comes because we trust God and we focus our thoughts on the One we trust. Verse 4 confirms these thoughts of the writer, where he is encouraging us to trust in the Lord, in Whom is everlasting strength! Many years ago, at a time of great sorrow and loss in her own life, Louisa Stead was inspired to write the words which have been sung all over the world for the past 100 years:
‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take him at His word; Just to rest upon His promise,
just to know, “Thus saith the Lord.” Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust Him more!’ By God’s grace, let us put all of our trust in Jesus, because only in trusting Him will we find peace.
