“O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:” Isaiah‬ ‭48:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬. Many today rejoice because through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we have peace with God. We read and rejoice in the truth that ‘Christ is our peace’. But sadly, most religious people today ignore the other scriptural truths related to peace. They forget that we will not have continued peace unless we listen to and obey what God tells us to do. Many times in God’s Word, peace is clearly connected with righteousness. That should remind us that we will not have peace unless we are hearing and obeying God’s Word. But thank God, when Christ lives in our hearts, He puts in us a hunger for the Word and gives grace and strength to obey it! Let us daily open our hearts to His Word and say, “Speak Lord for Thy servant heareth, and lead me in the paths of righteousness for Your name’s sake”. And as we hear and receive His Word, let us humble ourselves to walk in the light of it. Then, with joy, we will discover what Psalm 85:10 means, “righteousness and peace have kissed each other”.
