“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew‬ ‭4:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬. These are the words with which Jesus began His public ministry. The same words were spoken by John the Baptist as he preached. Peter preached repentance on the Day of Pentecost. Paul preached repentance. Every true minister of has made it clear that there is no salvation, there can be no genuine faith in God without repentance. Today much of religion tries to offer an easier way. They invite people to believe without any repentance. But the truth is, no one can truly believe in Christ until their attitude towards sin changes! This is what repentance is. It is a recognition that sin is wrong and must be turned away from. It is a fundamental change in the direction our life is going. We were running after sin and living selfishly, but when we turn to Christ we are turning away from, repenting of that old way of life. Until we see our need to repent, we will never see our need of a Saviour. Jesus said, “Except you repent, you will perish”(Lk 13:3). May God help the church in this compromising generation, to get back to the Gospel message of repentance from sin.
