“What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that Thou visitest him?”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭8:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬. Many people assume that when the psalmist asked this question he was looking mostly at man, because the verses that follow speak of man’s place in God’s creation. But it is the words before that help us to understand where his focus was. In verse 3, he is speaking to God and says, “When I consider Thy heavens and Thy work…” It is then, in light of the greatness and majesty of God, he humbly asks this question “What is man…?” His thoughts are not on man’s insignificance as much as on the awesome grandeur of God! He see’s God as high and lifted up and reigning in power and glory over all of creation! He see’s God’s Name as excellent beyond compare and His glory is above the heavens! And then, to think that this same God, so infinitely high above us, would choose to think about us and even to visit us in our need! Oh may this thrill and humble our hearts! To know that this awesome God, so full of glory and majesty, actually loves and cares for lowly creatures like us! Let us praise His Name forever, that He is mindful of us and chooses to dwell with us.
