“For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness…” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:8-9‬ ‭KJV‬‬. In the verse before Paul is describing some kind of affliction he was struggling with, a ‘thorn in the flesh’, that was obviously bothering him. And being human, he wanted to get rid of it. He asked God on 3 occasions to remove it. But that was when he received this amazing word from the Lord, ‘My grace is sufficient’. From then on Paul realized, that God’s grace would be magnified in his life in such a way, that he could not only endure the affliction, but he could bring glory to God as a result! Many times in our lives we face afflictions or difficulties that we ask God to take away, or to deliver us from. And that is only normal. But the test comes when we realize it is not always God’s will to remove the problem, but to transform us in the midst of the problem. We often struggle to understand, that the difficulties of life give us greater opportunities to experience the riches and sufficiency of God’s grace. May we humble ourselves as Paul did, and accept God’s will, and then discover that the power of Christ will rest on us.
