“I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: With my mouth will I make known Thy faithfulness to all generations.”Psalm 89:1 KJV. As the psalmist writes of God’s faithfulness many times in this psalm, he expresses here his desire, that others know of it as well. So he declares, “With my mouth will I make known Thy faithfulness to all generations.” He wanted his family and those around him to know how faithful God is! He wanted everyone to know! And certainly this is something that we all, as God’s children, should desire to do. But this is not about simply saying words or singing songs. This is much more than reading the testimonies of others. To truly declare God’s faithfulness means that we must experience it personally. That means we will go through some dark valleys and some storms of life. It means we will have difficult days and will desperately need God’s help. This is all necessary because only in those times can we truly discover how real God’s faithfulness is. But thank God, as we follow Jesus through these times we will discover what the songwriter expressed: “Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father. There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.”
