“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 KJV. One of the important things to remember when we think of this wonderful promise is, these two verses should always be considered as a whole. Together they include both the condition and the promise. We rejoice that God makes such incredible peace available to us. It is a peace that this world cannot give nor take away. It is a peace that will be safeguarded by the omnipotent power of God. But for us to have this peace requires the right attitude as we approach God in prayer. We must come humbly recognizing that He is the Mighty God, the Holy God, Who is filled with power and majesty. Our minds should consider the great blessing it is that He receives us as children and listens to our feeble cries. And our hearts should be ever thankful to Him for Who He is and what He has provided for us through His Son Jesus Christ. And then, as our eyes look to Him, we can bring our petitions and requests before Him. This is the way that our spirits are prepared to receive this precious gift of peace.
