(Part 2)“…and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, Whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? Daniel 6:20 KJV. This was a reasonable question from the heathen king who knew nothing of Daniel’s God. To his citizens, he was a god. And yet, he knew that he had no power against the lions. He knew they worshipped other gods, but they also were powerless. No doubt, he had heard the stories of the God of Israel delivering from the fiery furnace. But because he did not know God, he was not sure. But what a difference it makes when we know and serve the Living God! Daniel knew then, what we all should know today, which is: Our God is able to do anything and nothing is too hard for Him. And while we may never face physical lions, the Bible warns us of the devil, who is going about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. One of the reasons this confidence in God is critical for us is that we need to know He is able to keep us from the spiritual lion. It is humbling for us to realize that we have no power in ourselves against this roaring lion. But thank God, greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Because of our God we do not have to fear the evil one that is against us. Our God is well able to deliver.
