We live in a world of moral and spiritual darkness. Apart from God our own natures are darkened by sin. So how desperately we need the light of God’s Word to illuminate our hearts and minds so we will know how to live. Make room for God’s Word every day.

“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”   1 Corin‬ ‭1:21‬ ‭KJV.
God Himself has ordained that the preached Word be necessary in our spiritual lives. It’s not enough to try to make it alone, we need someone to care about our souls and preach the Word to us. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.

“My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.”  Proverbs‬ ‭23:26‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
True Christianity is an experience of the heart. God knows that every decision we make and every motive behind them begins in the heart. When our heart is truly committed to Him, He will have all of us, every part of our lives. But without a heart true to Him, nothing else matters. “Blessed are the pure in heart.”

“Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace…”.  Rom‬ ‭14:19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
Because of sin there is much strife and conflict in our world, and in people’s hearts. So if we truly want peace, we must ‘pursue’ the right things, holy and Godly things, that will bring peace within and without. And above all, let us follow Jesus, Who is our peace.

“Surely there is a reward for the righteous…”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭58:11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬      Every day we see people in this world seeking rewards of different kinds. But for the child of God, for the one who walks in righteousness, there is a reward everyday, in that we are blessed to walk with our King! And then the eternal rewards awaiting us are beyond what our minds can comprehend. So let’s hold on! There is a payday coming.

“Abstain from all appearance of evil.”
‭‭1 Thess‬ ‭5:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬
While it is true that God sees our heart, the fact is others can only see the outside of our lives. So what they see in our lives, either good or evil, is going to help them or hinder them. May we live with a carefulness, realizing that our lives are the only Bible some people read.

“If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love…”.  John‬ ‭15:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬
To keep His commands, to obey God’s Word is still our way of keeping ourselves in the love of God. Our obedience doesn’t change His love for us, but it keeps us connected to Christ in such a way that His love influences and affects every part of our life. May God help us to walk each day in obedience to His commands.

“For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”   ‭‭1 Thess. 4:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬
The call of God upon our lives is not a call to selfish, sinful living. Rather, it is always a call away from sin. We are called to follow Jesus, called to be saints, called to walk in holiness! God help us not to mistake the high calling of God.

“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
In this world people talk often of wanting peace. And certainly we need it. In our hearts and in our society. But there will be no peace apart from holiness. Until our hearts are cleansed from sin we will not have peace nor be at peace with others. James 3:17 says “first pure, then peaceable…”

“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;” Psa‬ ‭103:11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
We hear much today of God’s mercy, and it is great! Without His mercy we would be hopeless. But how many stop to think, of who His mercy is extended to? Are we among those who truly ‘Fear God’? Do we reverence and honor Him? Those are the ones who will receive God’s mercy.
