“And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:” Deuteronomy‬ ‭6:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬. One of the big problems Old Testament Israel had was, they kept God’s Word in their minds, but not in their hearts. When something is only in our mind, it can easily get pushed aside by other things that press upon our mind. But when something is truly in our heart, like the love of family, we do not forget nor lose sight of it. Thank God, in the New Covenant of grace, we have the privilege to have God’s Word written down in our hearts. God said to the prophet Jeremiah (31:33) “but this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.” But how can God write His Words upon hearts that are sinful, rebellious and hardened by sin? And here we find that He gives us the privilege to receive a new heart! This is through the miracle of the New Birth, when we put our faith in Christ and are born again spiritually. One of the sad realities we face today is, that too many have religion in their mind, but God’s Word is not written in their hearts. Let us open our hearts, made anew by His grace, and ask our Heavenly Father to write His Word in us.
