“For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is My brother, and My sister, and mother.” Mark‬ ‭3:35‬ ‭KJV‬‬. In this passage Jesus is describing how spiritual relationship is identified. He had already made clear, in John 3, that we must be born again. We must experience a spiritual rebirth which comes when we repent of sin and put our faith in Him as Saviour and Lord of our lives. That begins our new life in the family of God. But then, to identify those who are in the family, Jesus says something that shocks most religious people today! He says, “It is those who DO God’s will”. In other words, only those who OBEY what God tells us to do are to be identified as having this spiritual relationship. One of the saddest things happening in religion today, is that many people are told that obedience doesn’t matter. Many religious leaders imply that as long as you believe it doesn’t matter very much what you do??? But Jesus made it very clear. It is not those who claim to believe and still live a life of sin. It is not those who ignore the commands of God’s Word. It is only those who DO the will of God. Let us be those obedient children of God whose lives testify that we belong to Him and bring glory to our Lord.
