“For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” Hebrews‬ ‭10:36‬ ‭KJV‬‬. Today there is much said about claiming the promises of God. And certainly God’s promises are all yeah and amen in Christ! We are tremendously blessed to be able to stand on the promises. And yet, there are some who don’t understand that many Biblical promises are conditional. This means that our ability to claim and receive them is conditioned upon some response on our part. Here, we are reminded of one of the primary conditions that we must meet before we can receive the promise. And that is, we must do the will of God! It means God is waiting on our obedient response when He has shown us His will. For anyone to live or walk contrary to God’s revealed will, such as living in known sin, is to place themselves in a position where they cannot receive God’s promise. May each of us set our hearts to do God’s will. This makes it possible for us to have faith to claim God’s great and precious promises. And then, having received the promise,  we can do as the song says, and ‘Stand on the promises of God’.

“…but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.” Zechariah‬ ‭14:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬. As we begin a new year, there is much skepticism and despair among many believers. People are worn down by the pandemic with all of it’s far reaching negative effects. Many are deeply troubled about the world political situation, the climate as well as the apostate condition of religion. And for them the future seems very uncertain. But let us anchor our hopes for the future in something greater than the things we see around us. Let us rest our hopes on Who our God is and the promises He has given us! While the day may be dark around us and the enemies of the church may gather against us, yet God promises us that in the evening of time, it shall be light. We should realize that God is not like man. The fulfillment of His plan and purpose does not depend upon anything that may be against Him. Every thing that He promises He will do! Evil men and devils may try to cause darkness to prevail, but God, Who is Light, will overcome the darkness and shine His glorious Light. So let us not hang our heads in defeat or despair. Let us lift up our eyes of faith and be sure, that the glorious Light of Christ will prevail over this sin darkened world. I pray that each one will have a very blessed and Happy New Year.
