“And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: To the end He may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness…” ‭‭1 Thess. 3:12-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬. There are many people who believe holiness is simply adhering to a set of rules, or perhaps it is measuring up to a standard. But the Word of God makes it clear, that holiness is doing the right things for the right reasons. It is doing the right things because we love God and love others. We should understand that doing good things, even obeying the commands of God, if it is not done from a heart of love, then there is no virtue in it. So these verses remind us, this is where God begins in our hearts and lives. He puts His love in our hearts and then works to increase that love. Romans 5:5 tells us “the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost”. God does these things for a purpose. It is so that we might be ‘established unblameable in holiness’. It is so that we might have that pure heart and life before Him that is being conformed to the image of His Son. Let us open our hearts more and more to His great love.
