“only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things He hath done for you.” 1 Samuel‬ ‭12:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬. Samuel mentions here what is one of the keys to a proper relationship with God. We know that we are supposed to fear God and serve Him with all of our heart. But do we understand why? Do we recognize that He has done great things for us? It is one thing to have a reverence for God because of Who He is. Certainly anyone who recognizes God’s mighty power and authority would humble themselves before Him. But what He desires as a loving Father is that we also see how powerfully He has demonstrated His great love for us! He wants our response to Him to be a response to His great love. He gave the greatest sacrifice possible, when He gave His Son Jesus to be our Saviour. He did the greatest thing that could be done for us when He rescued us from our sins and made us His children. Let us take time to consider what great things our Lord has done for us. And then, we will respond as the songwriter expressed, “I will serve Thee, because I love Thee”.
