“God is our Refuge and Strength, A very present Help in trouble…The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our Refuge.” Psalm‬ ‭46‬:‭1 & 11‬ ‭KJV‬‬. Almost 500 years ago Martin Luther read this psalm and was inspired to write the song, ‘A Mighty Fortress is our God’. At that time his life was under threat and filled with many uncertainties. But this he was certain of, that the mighty God was his refuge and strength! As you read this brief psalm, take time to think about how desperately we need it today. We live in a world filled with many uncertainties. The threat of world war hangs over us. Economic fear grows every day. We wonder about what the future holds for our families. But thank God, in the midst of it all, we do not have to fear because the Everlasting God is in our midst! One verse of that song says, “And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God has willed, His truth to triumph through us”. Let us be those faithful souls in whose lives the truth of God triumphs! Let us rise above the fear and be sure, that our God rules over all and He will take care of us. He is our very present Help in trouble.
