Part 2 ”The LORD doth build up Jerusalem: He gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.“ Psalm‬ ‭147‬:‭2‬ ‭KJV‬‬. As we consider our gracious Lord gathering the outcasts, let us ask, “How does He gather souls?” We know that men gather by different means. Some gather by mental persuasion. Others try to draw people with an appeal to fleshly senses. And sadly, many try to gather by force and with cruelty. But we should understand that our gracious Lord gathers through the power of His love. The prophet Hosea describes how God gathers in 11:4: “He draws us to Himself with cords of love”. Paul writes in Romans 2:4: “God’s goodness leads us to repentance”. So we see that the manner in which God gathers the outcasts and needy souls is always through the goodness and power of His great love. Because He loves, He sends His Holy Spirit to reveal our need of Him. He lets us know that He is the only one Who can meet the needs of our soul. He shows us the incredible price He paid for our souls upon Calvary’s cross. And then He calls us to a personal decision. He does not force us. He will only gather those who are willing to come to Him. So as we go about this great work of reaching out to needy souls, let us learn from our Lord. We are not gathering souls to a church or to ourselves. We are merely the vessels He uses to gather the outcasts into His family. And by His grace, let us gather in love.
