“But He said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it.” Luke‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬ ‭KJV‬‬. As Jesus spoke, a woman in the crowd began to praise His earthly mother who gave birth to Him. But Jesus corrected her with these words about who are the truly blessed people. In the world’s eyes, the blessed ones are those with material and physical abundance, or perhaps natural ability and attributes. They have this idea because they look at things only on a fleshy level. But Jesus says the truly blessed souls are those who hear and keep God’s Word. But hearing means much more than occasionally listening to a sermon. Many people listen to sermons every week and do not keep the Word of God. The reason is, they listen only on a mental level and never personally hear from God so that His life changing Word is received in their heart. When we open God’s Holy Word to read and we listen to sermons we must be willing to open our heart to receive it and allow the Holy Spirit to apply it to our lives. Anything less than this personal application is only superficial listening. It is not hearing God’s voice speaking to our souls. But when we truly hear from Him, then we will be changed. And then we will be blessed as those who keep the Word of God in a life of obedience. By God’s grace, let us hear and do what God says.
