“The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way.” Psalms‬ ‭25:9‬ ‭NKJV. One of the great blessings of walking humbly with God is, that we can be sure that our Heavenly Father will lead us and guide us in the right way. But too often we are like the man who has lost his way on a trip, and yet is too proud and stubborn to admit it and to ask for directions.‬‬ His pride keeps him from admitting he needs help and then seeking for someone to point the way. Only the humble soul desires to be led. Only the humble heart knows he needs to be taught. And only the person who knows he needs help will humble himself before God to seek His guiding hand in his life. So each of us have this choice. Will I choose to direct my own steps because I believe I am sufficient to navigate through this life? Or will I humble myself before God and let Him lead me, guide me, and teach me how to walk in the right way, and one day make Heaven my home? Let us do as the songwriter encourages us to, ‘Humble thyself to walk with God’.

“…and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the Lord God of their fathers.” 2 Chronicles‬ ‭13:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬. In this passage the tribe of Judah had faced enemy forces twice the size of their own army. Physically and militarily, things did not look good for them. But because they trusted God and relied upon God, He gave a great victory over their enemies. In this world, every child of God soon realizes, that the odds are against us, when we look at things on a human level. The powers of hell are greater than any human strength. This ungodly world system is set against us. Our own weak flesh fails us. But the real question is, “Will we rely upon God?” Now God’s Word assures us that His church, the remnant, is going to prevail. But we have to decide this personally. Will I trust God to the place that I am willing to rely upon Him, in all things? Will I depend upon Him to make the choices for me? Will I rely upon Him to fight the battles I could never win? And the good news is, for the soul who trusts and relies upon God, there is no power of hell or earth that can prevail against us! It is the trusting soul who can stand upon God’s promise and know, ‘Greater is He that is within me, than he that is in the world!’ (1 Jn 4:4) Let us rely upon Jesus Christ in all things and we shall overcome.

“From the end of the earth will I cry unto Thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭61:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬. The psalmist prayed this prayer at a time when he was banished from the city of God. He was far away from the Tabernacle, the place where God had called His people to worship. In other words, he was a long way from where he wanted to be. And there he is overwhelmed by the threats and attacks of the enemy against him. But even there, he cries out to God. He knows that God alone is the Rock he needs. He remembers that God is his Rock of refuge. So there in that desperate state of mind, he asks God to lead him! He asks God to do what he cannot do on his own. To lead him back to the place he desires to be. There are times in our lives we feel like this. We recognize we are not where we want to be, and need to be. We are overwhelmed by the assaults of the enemy against our souls. But let us remember, we can always lift our cries to our Father! We can ask Him to take us by the hand and lead us back to where we need to be. So when life seems overwhelming, may we be willing to humble ourselves to admit our need, cry out to God, and let Him lead us.

“Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for Thy name’s sake.” Psalms‬ ‭79:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬. The psalmist expresses here what has always been the desire of those who love God. He asks for help, for deliverance and for cleansing from sin. He prays for this, in part, because he knows sin is what separates the soul from God. He understands that sin corrupts the heart and ruins the life. But most of all, he asks because he realizes sin is what grieves and displeases our Holy God. Sin is what wounds the heart of the God he loves. So his prayer is not selfish as so many today. He is not thinking only of how it affects him. He prays here, “for the glory of Thy Name” and “for Thy Name’s sake”. How many more prayers we would see answered, IF we would pray like this! If, in our struggles we would understand, that my life is supposed to bring glory to God and to His Holy Name! And that all of the previous souls we pray for, they also, have been created for God’s glory. Let us learn to pray more for the glory of the God we love. And then, we will see more prayers answered, for the glory of God.

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭9:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬. This verse is a beautiful Old Testament prophecy of Christ. We rejoice in it because it reveals so much to us about why Jesus came to this fallen world. We are so thankful that He is our Prince of Peace! But do we realize, on a personal level, how He brings peace to our hearts? Do we understand that there is no peace for our soul until the government of our life is on His shoulders? Many people fail to understand, peace is not something Jesus gives to us like a gift. Rather, His peace is what comes when He has His rightful place in our lives. That means when He is our Lord. The Bible tells us that His kingdom is a kingdom of peace, so when He reigns on the throne of our hearts, there will be peace. And because He is the Mighty God, nothing can disturb the peace that He brings. May we welcome the Prince of Peace into our lives, give Him the rightful place He deserves and listen as He speaks peace to us.

“I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for He will speak peace unto His people, and to His saints: but let them not turn again to folly.” Psalms‬ ‭85:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬. Peace is something that every rational mind desires. One of the things that draws us to Christ is the promise that He can give us peace in our hearts. In this verse the psalmist reminds us how this blessed peace comes to our hearts and minds. God Himself speaks it! He speaks it through His Word. He speaks it through His messengers. He speaks it through anointed songs. He even speaks peace through His creation when we properly understand it. But the key is, we must shut out other voices and listen when He speaks! We must listen with the intent to believe and obey. We must not turn back to the folly of listening to the voices of doubt and unbelief that are so prevalent in this world. Everyday, take time in quiet with God’s Word and listen as He speaks peace to your soul. As you do, the words of the song will become real to you: ‘He whispers sweet peace to me’.

“And David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee…” I Chronicles‬ ‭28:20‬ KJV. When David was telling his son Solomon about all of this great work before him, when he would soon become king, try to imagine how Solomon as a young man must have felt. Inadequate?Overwhelmed? Intimidated? But in these words David reveals the only means by which Solomon can be successful. And history reveals he was. He did accomplish great things. Sometimes in our lives we feel overwhelmed by the things before us. Whether it is raising a child, dealing with a difficult person, or simply being the Godly person we are called to be, these things cause us to feel inadequate. But may we realize, the same God that was with Solomon, Who enabled him to be a great earthly king, and to accomplish the work, He is with us as well! He will be with us! He will not fail us nor forsake us! So let us take courage! Because with God, nothing is impossible.

“… You, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.” Psalms‬ ‭86:17‬ ‭NKJV. (I encourage you to take a moment and read and reflect on this Psalm) In these verses David has been crying out to God because of the attack of evil men upon him. He humbles himself and admits his condition. He pleads with God to save him and preserve his soul. He asks for divine strength. And yet, even as he prays, his mind is continually turning to Who God is! As he pleads, he is rejoicing in God’s goodness, mercy and grace! As he seeks God for help, he is praising Him for what He has done, and even for what He is going to do! And finally, after seeking God like this, he testifies what every honest soul will, who seeks God in this manner. “Lord, You have helped me‬‬ and comforted me.” So in our times of distress, when our hearts are crying out to our Father in Heaven, let us learn to pray as David did. Let us be open and honest about our needs, and let us always keep our minds upon Who God is! And as we do, our testimony to others will be: ‘The Lord has helped and comforted me’.

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” Romans‬ ‭8:37‬ ‭KJV. There are times in our lives when we feel like anything but a conqueror. We go through troubles and times of suffering. We can become discouraged and worried about things happening around us‬‬. We even become fearful about the future. And thank God, He understands our weakness. But here, God is reminding us what He makes possible when we learn to depend on Jesus Christ and we begin to look at things and face things ‘through Him that loved us’. When we surrender our lives to Christ and learn to abide every moment in Him, then every difficulty is faced ‘through His power’. When enemies rage against us, we can triumph over them ‘through His love’. When perplexities come, we can overcome them ‘through His wisdom’. As we learn to face every situation in life ‘through Christ’, then our defeat will be changed to victory! May God help us never to accept the defeatist attitude of modern religion. Instead, let us put all of our faith in Christ and learn to live every moment through Him. And then, through His grace, we will be more than conquerors.

“Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The Lord reigneth.” 1 Chronicles‬ ‭16:31‬ ‭KJV. This is the message God’s people desperately need to believe and to proclaim, that ‘Our God reigns!’ We need to remember that we serve a God Who is Sovereign, possessing all power and authority! That it is He Who ‘holds the lives of kings in His hands and turns their hearts wherever He desires!’  Prov. 21:1. Our God reigned over all when He created this universe and world. He has reigned over all throughout man’s brief history. And, He will reign every moment of every day yet to come! Nothing that goes on here is a threat to God’s authority over this world. So we as God’s children should rejoice in Him! We should be encouraging others by reminding them that our God reigns! We should show to the world the great blessing of a life where we accept His reign in our hearts and lives. And as we look to the days ahead, we should have peace and rest in our souls, because the God Who reigns over all is our Father.
